There is no single fixed interval for PAT testing. The IET Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment recommends a risk-based approach, so the right frequency depends on the type of appliance, how often it is used and the environment it is used in. Handheld tools on a Terminus Road workshop or a horticultural nursery site typically need testing every 3 to 12 months, while low-risk office equipment such as monitors and printers in a city centre office might only need checking every 2 to 4 years.
