TES Compliance was commissioned to carry out fixed wire testing at The Shard, one of the most recognisable and prestigious buildings on the London skyline. Standing at approximately 306 metres tall and comprising 95 floors, The Shard is one of the tallest buildings in Western Europe and home to an extraordinarily diverse mix of occupants — including a 5-star hotel, multiple high-end restaurants, extensive office space, private residences, a public viewing platform, and a private hospital. This variety of occupants, each with their own distinct operational requirements and access restrictions, made The Shard one of the most logistically complex and challenging compliance projects our team has undertaken. Coordinating testing across such a wide range of tenants within a single structure required meticulous planning, exceptional communication, and a highly experienced team capable of adapting to the demands of each individual environment.
The scale of the building itself added a further layer of complexity, with 44 lifts serving 95 floors of densely occupied and operationally critical space. Our engineers worked methodically throughout the structure, ensuring every circuit and installation was thoroughly tested and assessed against current regulatory standards whilst causing minimal disruption to the building’s occupants and daily operations. From the technical demands of testing within a private hospital environment to the logistical challenges of coordinating access across a 5-star hotel and residential floors, every aspect of this project was managed with the utmost professionalism and care.
